Struggling Against The Darkness

Are you struggling?  Do you feel like there are days when the waves might actually overtake you and you’ll actually drown?  Today is one of those days for me.  Thankfully, since I’ve been saved, they don’t come often.  I am so tired – it feels like I could sleep for a week and still not be rested.  I hadn’t previously shared with you that my mom passed away at the beginning of February.  Yes, I understand it’s ok to feel this way and I’m not minimizing what I’m going through, just sharing.  The opposite is true as well.  I hope that because the cause of your sadness isn’t as “big” as mine, that you won’t minimize yours either.  Regardless of what we perceive the cause to be, the answer is still the same – God is sovereign and still has everything under control.  I don’t know about you, but that gives me peace.  Allow the following truths to really sink into your soul (I am speaking to myself as much as you).

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are Mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.  (Isaiah 43:1-2; NKJV)

Why are you down, O my soul?  Andy why are you disquieted within me?  Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.  O my God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore I will remember You…The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me – a prayer to the God of my life. (Psalm 42:5-6a,8 8; NKJV)

Therefore we do not lose heart.  Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.  For our light affliction which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are see, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18; NKJV)

For the last couple of nights I have been reading a section in my Names of God Bible.  The following is a quote that explains a little deeper the meaning of this particular Old Testament name of God.

” The Lord of Armies, The Lord of Hosts, or the Lord Almighty, depending on the translation, is a title that emphasizes God’s rule over every other power in the material and spiritual universe…When you pray to Yahweh Tsebaoth, you are praying to a God so magnificent that all creatio serves his purposes…Most of us experience times in our lives when we, too wish we had more power–to direct our future, to help our children, to make the world a better place.  Some situations make our weakness painfully apparent.  At such times, it might help to reflect on our connection to the most powerful being on the universe, to Yahweh Tsebaoth.  Consider how the Bible shows him commanding not only aremies of angels and humans but the natural world as well…Though we are weak and limited, we are not defenseless because we belong to a God of unimginable power.  And though it may seem that he is sleeping through our time of need, he is still Yahweh Tsebaoth, the Lord of Armies, able to do far more than we think or imagine.” (pp 364-365)

Let go of you concerns!  Then you will know that I am Elohim.  I rule the nations. I rule the earth.  Yahweh Tsebaoth is with us.  The Elohim of our Jacob is our stronghold. (Psalm 46:10-11, NOG)

O Yahweh Tsebaoth, blessed is the person who trust you. (Psalm 84:12)

I hope you are encouraged today by how intimate our God is.  He is not far away, but very near and waiting for us to run to Him to be our all.  Please share any thoughts or further studies you have done that go with this subject.
