When an inordinate amount of resources (time, money and energy) are spent on pursuits that focus on making us look good or feel better about who we are rather than bringing Him glory, it is often an indication that God is not Lord over that area. As I struggle through the ups and downs of becoming free from disordered eating,… Continue reading What Matters In The End?
I find it amazing all the various ways God will try to get our attention. For instance, the other evening while mowing the lawn, a small bird landed on the ground near me. He didn’t fly away even though I continued to push the loud mower back and forth. Deciding this scene was too unique… Continue reading Gentle Reminders
Not long ago I read through Genesis while doing the 30-Day Bible Reading Challenge developed by Revive Our Hearts. It had been a while since I spent much time reading in the Old Testament. Even though I think most of us know the stories that are contained in it, I was surprised by how many of the… Continue reading What Are You Chasing?
Don’t you just love when you ask God to change you in a specific way and then He does!?! It shouldn’t amaze me that He answers my prayers – but it does. He is the Almighty, Creator of the universe, High Priest, King of Kings, Savior. Yet He condescends to enter into my every day. He… Continue reading Renewed Appetite
I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. 2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered… Continue reading Psalm 116
This post has taken me longer to write than I had originally anticipated. Wading through my thoughts and emotions has been much like tromping in the mud. You know the rain that caused it is necessary to wash away the filth, quench deep thirsts and bring new life but boy does it make a mess… Continue reading Her Name Is Charis
I cannot better compare the folly of those men and women who think they will get contentment by musing about other circumstances than to the way of children: Perhaps they have climbed a hill and look a good way off and see another hill, and they think if they were on top of that, they would be able to touch the clouds with their fingers; but when they are on the top of that hill, alas, they are as far from the clouds as they were before. So it is with many who think If I were in such circumstances, then I should have contentment; and perhaps they get into circumstances, and they are as far from contentment as before. But then they think that if they were in other circumstance, they would be contented, but when they have got into those circumstances, they are still as far from contentment as before. No, no, let me consider what is the duty of my present circumstance, and content my heart with this, and say, ‘Well, though I am in a low position, yet I am serving the counsels of God in those circumstances where I am; it is the counsel of God that has brought me into these circumstances that I am in, and I desire to serve the counsel of God in these circumstances.’
